April 21st, 2024 – Balance between having Fun and Escaping one’s own life

Yesterday I went out with some students of mine, we ended up “Club hopping” in Kuala Lumpur, we went to a place called TREC which is a place that concentrates more than 30 different bars and clubs.

It was my first time there and I really liked the overall vibe! All these different options and a lot of people.

But as I was there, drinking, listening to music, dancing, and observing other people,

One thought started to strike me.

The realization that I just don’t like this stuff.

It’s simply not part of who I am.

I couldn’t help but think that most people there are just trying to escape their lives.

To get out of their own heads.

I mean, nothing wrong with this, everyone has their own way of doing this.

But to me, “clubbing” just seems too much of escapism, and a very expensive one to be fair.

Not just in the money sense (especially true in Malaysia as alcohol can get crazy prices in a Muslim country)

but the other expenses like your health, time and productivity the next day, even spiritual state if you believe in this stuff, emotional too for sure.

I just don’t feel that it’s worth it, you know?

But of course, this is a personal opinion.

Every time I go out I question myself, where is the balance between having fun and escaping one’s own life?

I still can’t come up with an answer.

Let me know your thoughts on this one!
